Many of the appraisers in business these days are forgetting that we will not be this busy every month of every year
PLEASE BE A PROFESSIONAL AND RESPOND TO YOUR CLIENT regarding due dates etc
Clients expect and accept delays BUT DON'T BE MIA STAY IN TOUCH
Most of us are very professional but we hear from many LOs and AMCs that appraiser's are not responding for upwards of 10+ days
I recently did an appraisal on a house where the appraiser had already completed the inspection but 15 days later no report was submitted
We all love being busy and making money BUT PLEASE DON'T BELITTLE OUR PROFESSIONALISM
MANY OF US HAVE WORKED HARD AND CONTINUE TO WORK HARD TO KEEP OUR PROFESSION AT ITS PRIME
DON'T BE THAT BOZOO APPRAISER
 
Clients expect and accept delays
since when? No the AMCs demand daily reports as if you didn't have another blessed thing to do. Never mind the borrower is AWOL, the legal is botched, the courthouse is closed....I'm still waiting for zoning compliance officer to return my call from 3 weeks ago.

I finished a report after no one returned my call about the weird contract. So I called the borrower about it, and apologized for delaying it. He replied, "no problem, we don't close until Nov. 20th." Really, now that is a client. You get the report a full 30 days in advance of closing...take your time and do it right.

Courtesy is a two way street.
 
There are plenty of firms that can provide better service, however the clients continue to go to the ones with the desired price point.

Everyone has choices, the clients you are referring to choose to go with the choice that meets their needs. It is cheaper to move a loan closing back than it is to hire an alternative appraiser to do the project well and quickly.

I am this busy every day of every month of the year, 12 years now. A lot of times when I hear sob stories of how the "other" appraiser went AWOL, or never submitted their report, its usually shenanigans on the side of the lender/client/AMC or some skippy realized they were in way over their head. Be professional, don't wear flip flops to the inspection & drive your comps photos.
