I've got the stock alamode sketching software, but I'd like to make my floorplans look a little bit more professional, with more options and precise interior and exterior wall thickness. Anyone out there using an AutoCAD, TurboCAD, or similar product? 3D capability would also be nice.

Learn to use the software you already have. It's quite capable of doing what you describe

I'm pretty familiar with the sketching software I use. Line width/wall thickness cannot be adjusted to an exact measurement. Total Sketch is also not 3D capable. And there are several other issues I have with Total Sketch, but that's moot.

I'd like a more advanced sketching program and I know they exist. I'm seeking opinions from other appraisers who have experience with a CAD program or similar type product.

Do you have experience using any of these programs?
Its been a really long time since I used AutoCAD but it was somewhat cumbersome and more detailed than my needs.

Apex is the best you are going to get and retain any level of speed. I used an auto cad program years ago and simply framing the thing took about as long as sketching would in Apex.

There are companies that specialize in measuring homes/commercial properties.

I used a company once when a homeowner disagreed with my measurements. I told the homeowner that I'd pay the charge if I was more than 10% off. Their fee for a 3000 sf home was $250.

Their sketch was impressive but I don't know what program they used. See if you have a similar business in your area.

Oh and our measurements were less than five percent different.
