I am trying to decide if I want to do the field work on an Ipad mini or a similarly sized android tablet. Does 3.6 work on both?

EDIT - I'd like to know for both Alamode and SFREP

Whatever you do get something you can use LIDAR with. The new scanning software for sketching will be the wave of the future very soon. I find the biggest problem with tablets is getting one with a good wide angle lens. Thus I use an IPHONE.

I picked an 2022 Apple iPad Pro (12.9-inch, Wi-Fi + Cellular, 512GB) - Amazon (Renewed Premium) for the full size, cell data, LIDAR, ultra wide rear facing camera which the newer models stupidly do not have and one year warranty.

Alamode and SFREP
At this point SFREP doesn’t have a mobile app unless someone just came out with one. And you will have to pay extra for it. Total program comes with the desktop software.

I would probably get a test run with each software using a mobile app before you decide. The thing you have to be aware of is get one that fits your workflow style and is adaptable. And it will take awhile for you to get the hang of it. So be patient.

I have been using the total mobile for the time they first came out with it. It works great with 2.6, since the structure is just far simpler. Not as much with 3.6 at this point. Far more complex. There are a few hiccups. I have used it with four 3.6 reports and I’ve had one minor issue and one major issue that I was able to “recover” from once I discovered what happened. They just came out with an update, so hopefully it fixed some of the issues.

Fun times.

Lidar isn't quite where it needs to be when it comes to small instrument use. The tech is out there that can do accurate 3D scans. But the computing power it takes is another thing

I don’t know. I just did an appraisal on a property (Restricted Use). The agent used Cubicassa for the GLA. It was a large home (4 million). and had lots of corners, etc. Didn’t want to sketch it. I also had the original floor plans to look at. I compared the two. It was pretty accurate. I was really surprised. My guess is the agent just used a phone or tablet. I have to call her and ask what she used.

I just looked at Apple’s new IPHONE foldable. It would be perfect for this use. But at $2000 that’s quite a price tag.

Has anyone been using non-iPhone tablets to do 3.6?

Microsoft Surface Go 2, full version of Apex for Windows and a checklist residing in OneNote. Been using Windows tablets for years now and having good results with them. I tried the new alamode android app and decided I'd rather just add 3.6 requirements to my old 2.6 field inspection protocol which I've been using for years instead of trying to relearn a whole new one. I'm taking lots of extra pictures and a few extra notes and not feeling too stressed out about it.
