Brian, search this topic in the archives for the information you seek.

Brian,

The best advice I can give you is this:

Choose five established appraisers with good reputations. Learn about their organizations. You can go to your local library and look in Reference USA (I think that is what it is called) There you will be able to research backgrounds and even credit status of these offices. Also at the top of this website there is a search for appraisers by state and county, here you will find some leads and some pretty good information on the type of business these appraisers do.

Write a personalized letter to each of these appraisers telling them your background and how you feel you would fit into their organization. This worked for me. Out of the five I picked I had three positive responses. I was lucky enough to go to work for my # 1 choice. Good luck!!
