A new study conducted at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio – one of the world’s leading cancer treatment centers – has led to a breakthrough in predicting prostate cancer using a blood test. The study showed that men who underwent an early diagnosis using a new blood test called IsoPSA and received a normal result in both the blood test and the biopsy have just a 1% risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer within 18 months (the follow-up time in the study).

well, the normal blood psa test for checking has a degree scale. after a certain age you should be doing it every year. problem is once cancer is detected there isn't much of a choice in how it's handled, the surest safe way is removal, but that is creating other issues. had my dog at the vet's and discovered he had an enlarged prostate, which is common for older dogs. well, had surgery to fix him. doc says his prostrate will shrink with his man glands gone.

Enlarged prostate is common for men when getting older. Continual PSA test is good in keeping track of possible prostate issues. If cancer is found, it's treatable.
Never had PSA test but could be painful? If replaced by less evasive blood test, I'm all for it.

king, when you get a normal blood test for anything, they can use the same blood for a psa test. the uncomfortable part is that when your psa is showing high, they will have to get some samples of your prostate to check for the spread of the cancer. now that is kinda unpleasant. since you don't have that problem, i won't go any further into what happens next here, unless someone else wants to know.

I never got a PSA test. Hadn't had an annual check up prior to Covid. I feel fine. Any aches and pain are due to getting old. Having best health plan, if something goes wrong, I know hospital will take care of me.

Most men will die with prostate cancer. Not because of it.

I know more horror stories about prostate surgeries than I do successes. Be careful and know the risks.

It's a risk and benefit decision. Sometime surgery is too risky and best not to do it.

Researchers have found long-term evidence that actively monitoring localized prostate cancer is a safe alternative to immediate surgery or radiation, according to a study published on Saturday in the New England Journal of Medicine. Le Monde with AP Published on March 12, 2023 at 03h48 1 min.

yes, depends on your severity of it. but that prostate cancer can spread to other areas. they now have robotic surgery which may make it more precise, and less risky. at the age you find this out i'm not so sure you should wait. a friend's aged friend had it, but had a girl friend and didn't want it done. 5 years later he was gone.

I had prostate cancer when I was 60. It was caught on an annual check up. The PSA test should be taken to know the degree of it going up and not the amount. They took a biopsy and my gleason score was 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. A low gleason score means it may simply require watching. But mine was high and my urologist said that watching shouldn’t work. And in fact after my prostate was removed they found I had pretty aggressive cancer. Gleason score was 8. So I felt fortunate.

Get that annual psa test. And if it is changing then get it looked at. Prostate cancer caught early is totally curable.
