Which one should I get? Keep in mind I'm poor, but I still need something that will do the job!!!

Hard to believe that less than 5 years ago a good camera with 1.2 mg pixel cost over 800 bucks. You can get a decent camera for under 200 pretty easy. Sony has a good line of cameras and you can buy rebuilt ones at their Sony outlet stores. I picked up a rebuilt pocket size one for 150 bucks. AND if you want to get really cheap, I read where the disposable digital cameras can be tweaked to be used over and over for around $20.00.

I know some one who just bought one at Staples for under $150 - it was an Olympus - size of a pack of cigs (I think - been too long to remember the exact size of those things).

My bouncing down the stairs a few weeks ago resulted in occasional odd colors in my Kodack 5000... so I trotted off to Best Buy and landed the floor model of the Kodack DX4900: small and modestly priced (under $200), which uses the same flash card memory the 'old' camera did

I will say the old and slightly too heavy DC5000 withstood rain, and many bouces, and BEING so heavy I never left it behind when I was done...

Don't discount floor models, sometimes you can buy an extended warrenty and get twice 3x the camera for half price  with more 'they fix it free' time :flowers:

Hi Betsey:

I would strongly recommend the Mavica series by sony. I mean the ones that use a floppy disk for media. With these you can go and do and inspection and then just throw the floppy in the file. Then later when you get back to the job for comp photos you just take the disk out of file and keep on trucking. If you use a memory stick, you could get confuesed about which pics go with which job.

B) I use the Canon super shot with a flash card for most jobs. It is small, can be put in my pants pocket when I go inside. When I get back to office I pop the card in a San Disk reader and walla!!!! A small card can hold hundreds of photos. I also use the Kodak 5000 with the same type of card for jobs where I figure I will need to take long shots, get a broader rear photo, etc. I carry both with me at all times. Also, the Canon uses about 1/10th the battery power as a 5000. I bought rechargeable batteries several years ago and have not worn them out yet.

Hal,

I've been using the Mavica since it first came out, now on my 3rd one. It's big and bulky and I bought the wide angle lens for it, I'll never lose it. But I switched from using the floppy to the memory stick. The data transfer is much faster and from time to time the disks would default. On the front of each file folder I use I have printed in 36 block letters the address of the property. I take a picture of that before I shoot subject photos, otherwise, after a day of 5-6 inspections, I can't remember what is what.

hey, THAT is a great idea! I try to get a close up of someplace with a number on it: mailbox whatever but when I am downloading what I REALLY want is the file number...

I just adopted TC's idea as a new 'habit'! B)

Thanks TC
