Here’s my opinion having worked inside the beast.
The ASC is well run and every person I’ve dealt with there is a true professional. Their budget is nominal given that they perform in person reviews requiring hotel and flights.
I don’t have too much insight on TAF except to say they tend to give lip service to input. I would love to see TAF restructured, massively.
As for the states, consolidation for appraiser licensees into a dozen or so regions should happen, at least for investigations. Some states are so small that a single attorney is responsible for up to a couple of dozen different state licensing agencies. Also, abolish Boards in favor of an agency comprised of state paid investigators and enforcement management who can make decisions on cases (licensees can challenge that decision at an administrative hearing).
AMC licensing and enforcement should be done at a national level. It doesn’t make sense for an AMC to file for a certificate in up to 55 jurisdictions. It would also help with enforcement as AMCs are challenging for individual states to take action on.
Just some food for thought.
