Received a call today from Calypso Appraisal from Randolph, Vermont. They provide continuing education for appraisers online and are offering deeply discounted prices for the current continuing education cycle. Their course list appears to be very limited, but money is money. Has anyone had any experience with Calypso Appraisal Education? Your advice will be appreciated.

You get what you pay for. Personally I try to take all my classes through the Appraisal Institute.

I just finished their course on housing architecture. Very interesting with lots of videos from knowledgeable instructor. Really enjoyed it.

I just completed my continuing education through Calypso. I was satisfied with the content although there was some repetition. I had previously used Appraisal University, it was the absolute cheapest however their website didn't allow enrolment and they didn't answer phone calls or e-mail.

I don't know how CE is handled in your state, but, here in IL either the course must be pre-approved for CE credit by the licensing agency in order for the appraiser to obtain credit OR the appraiser may apply (which includes a fee of $50) for approval--where there is no guarantee that the course will be approved--following completion of the course.

You may want to look before you leap.

The Calypso website lists the states which approved the courses.

I did mine through Calypso. It was OK. Previously used McKissock, but this was half the price. The types of classes are limited. I always take mine online, because I live in an area where it is hard to travel. Plus I don’t want to have spend all the time & money to stay overnight etc. And I don’t like taking classes where I have to sit all day listening to a lecture and/or people asking crazy questions. Boring. I can sit down and do a little bit at a time.
