Camera Choice For Trainee

There is no point not using a phone unless the camera has wide angle lens. Those regular point and shoot cameras are no better than the phone camera. Megapixels do not matter. The reason you get a separate camera is because you want more descriptive photos. When shooting small spaces like rooms, the wide angle helps a lot.

Sensor sizes on cheap point and shoot and cell phones are small....regardless pixels, etc.

I have been using my Nikon D5500 with a 11-16mm lens mostly. I use a 16-85mm for comparable drive-bys since I don't know what distance I will be able to get to them.

Some phones have multilple lenzes, I think the new LG and a couple of others.
Often a regular camera is easier to handle, need wide angle and zoom.

I prefer a real camera, but a trainee who is allergic to cameras can use their cell phone. A cheap clip on lens can provide a wide angle view which is almost always helpful in taking interior and exterior shots of the subject. The comps, not so much, and usually can be fit in the regular view. Just remember to turn the camera sideways.
