If I am unsure of the proper procedure for an appraisal, can I inquire with a Board member to get instructions?

I have inquired with several peers and researched the issue, but all answers are ambiguous or conflicting.

You would think that is one of the things that they are there for?

But, in North Dakota they will not answer any questions you may ask. Their sole purpose is to disrupt the lives of honest appraisers and look the other way when the dishonest 'skippys' come traipsing through.....

Good Luck

What is the question that you want answered?

IF I were a member of the Michigan Board, I would not answer a question that goes to an appraisal specific issue (other than pointing someone to what may be an applicable section of the USPAP or Michigan license law (etc.) that is a part of the appraiser's problem-solving process. In general, I would not want to tell the appraiser WHAT to do and HOW to do it...that's the resonsibility of the appraiser.

I have offered a general response. Why not pose the question that you are seeking a response to?

There are times when I have called the state and asked a question. Usually happens when I know the answer but I get the "all the other appraisers do it" answer from the lender. I always get the name of the person I speak with and pass it along to my client in case they want some clarification. (Not really-just to rub their nose in it!)

Mary,

Try Lum Library with AI. I use it many times through out the year. More then pays for my annual dues having the research and opinions expressed within the many articles and/or book references. Most times an article can be downloaded.
