Canon PowerShot S200 ELPH

in case your camera does not list them in the order in which they were taken or the camera don't put a number on each image.

Leon, I'm confused. :? Your camera doesn't give each new pic a sequential file name? They can't all have the same name? :?

I'm talkin' file name, not an imprint on the photo itself.

I just note the first file number given by the camera for the first pic on a job. Then I number 1 thru whatever for subject and comp pics. i.e. pic # 8765 is first, I note front of subject is #1, st is #2, R is #3, then the interiors, maybe 4 thru 6 or more LR, K, Ba. Then comps are #7 to whatever.

So there's a dozen or 2 per job usually. Then I copy them into the folder for that job, which also contains pdf's and stuff I don't actually print on paper, then load into the appraisal. Back them up, I'm done. :)

Lee:

What type of Camera do you have that will imprint a number or series of numbers on each image? Do you set the number manually, or are you talking about jotting down on a note pad a number beside each shot you take? You indicate in your Post that you note the "first file number given by the Camera". You also indicated that you "number 1 thru whatever". Are you saying that you manually number each image while it's still in the Camera, or as I said, are you just writing down on some scratch paper a number next to a list of shot you've taken?

"What I trying to find out is if there is someone who has a system to label their photo's while they are still in the Camera in case your camera does not list them in the order in which they were taken or the camera don't put a number on each image. "

Here's my stream-of-consciousness response to your question (I might not be answering your question, but the following is what I feel like writing about):

1) My Minolta has an audio tag you can add to each picture. I've used it a few times when the comparable sales require detailed descriptions of privacy, site utility, view, setting, etc. If you think you look like a dork talking on your hands-free cell phone, wait until someone catches you talking to your camera.

2) I usually just make a note of the picture order on my list of comparables. If I think I might get confused, I also make a note of a distinguishing feature (color of car or something). When I look at several jobs in a day, I separate the sequences with a photo of something obviously out of sync, like a picture of my dashboard.

3) If your camera doesn't name the pictures in some sort of logical order (I think most do), you can always use the picture's file date stamp to sort them into sequential order.

4) If you want to have absolute certainty, you could always take a picture of the written address prior to taking the picture of the property. There would be twice as many photos, but digital film is cheap.

You're probably thinking that you would like to have the date imprinted right on the image, like some 35mm SLR's do. I think that the manufacturers of digital cameras figured that the file attributes attached to each photo would serve the same purpose.

I have a DC 210 and DC 240, nothing too new. The 240m has an option to imprint date and time ont the pic, can't find it in the 2210. The cam makes the file name/num, and yeah, I just jot down numbers on paper. Downside is I guess, I need the paper to be absolutely sure which pic is which, for ones I don't use in the appraisal. Ones I do use, just look at the completed appraisal file.

If you think you look like a dork talking on your hands-free cell phone, wait until someone catches you talking to your camera.

I think Koert has a good idea here. Another reason to upgrade cameras.

My camera is a Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Elph and yes one of the choices in the program was whether I wanted the date and time on the image itself. I choose not too, that covers up something in the photo and since I reuse comparable photos, I don't want an underwriting getting into a tizzy because a comp photo is dated six months ago. Even tho I have driven past the house, six times in those six months, including 5 minutes ago but it was very cloudy and today's photo would have been very dark. Some one else's comment did catch my eye. After you have down loaded your photos to a folder in your computer, click on view, select details, then click on the top of the column with the date and time, each time you click it will sort in order or reverse order. So though they might not be in sequence on your camera, they will be in sequence on your computer. But it sounds like your camera needs to be sent back to the factory if it is still under warranty. What brand and model do you have? Several years ago another appraiser on a different chat room was having the same problem with a Kodak and Kodak replaced his camera because it turned out to be defective and couldn't be fixed. My Kodak is still under warranty and had been fixed in the factory once, but I decided last fall that it would be easier, quicker and simpler just to buy a new camera.

Koert:

I like your #1 about the Audio Tag. That has possibilities. I saw a Minolta Ad in todays paper but it was not the "X" it was a Dimage 4.. (if forgot the last two numbers) and the price was $ 399. It was a 4 Pix with a free 16mb compact flash card. Your number 4 also has possibilities. The others I've tried.

Jo Ann:

I have a Polaroid PDC 700, and it was discontinued when I bought it a couple of years back. I have to check that S200 out (what does the elph stand for), I think I saw it somewhere on the Net for $ 299.

Best Buy is always worth checking out, but I only do it to see what the devise looks like, but they don't have the necessary literature and specs on devises that would allow you to properly evaluate and compare similar devises, plus the fact they don't have all the stuff you would like to check out or compare.

So i'll always end up getting my stuff off the net anyway, plus you can save a few dollars also. I've been buying online for as long as I can remember, and before that I bought "Mail Order". I've bought a lot of stuff, and i've had fairly good results, and I have only had to return 3 or 4 items in all these years and many purchases. Purchasing online just expand your choices and it makes all brand names and prices available to you. Where some local retailers will only stock high-end products that they will make a big profit from.

If your Polaroid 700 is anything like my Polaroid 1100--buy a new camera! My Polaroid was terrible, it still works but the photos are lousy, the program to process the images was lousy and I was very dissatisfied with the whole thing. Used it less than a year, so bought the Kodak 215, it lasted six months then had to be sent back to the factory, that problem was fixed and a new problem showed up. So that is when I bought the Elph. Don't know what Elph stands for but it is a line of models for Cannon, I think there are 35mm Elph cameras also. Somebody at Cannon got "cute" and decided to use those initials for the very small cameras, which would be pronounced like elf.

After reading all these posts, I'm loving my camera more and more. Sony Mavica - pop in a disk, take the subject & comp photos, pop out the disk & put it in the file. No guessing, no deleting photos. Software stores the pics, but we have the disk in the file for any future needs. Nothing could be easier!

Nothing could be easier until you get a bad disk.
And dont you know it will be for the report that is 200 miles one way.

My buds that use mavica have been there and done that...

I always have extra disks with me. Just like, you never know when that battery will run out, always keep an extra on hand. (I was a girl scout, can you tell?)
