I can't find a plat map for a particular property in San Diego County, Oceanside to be exact... the property is about 3 years old now and Realist.com and Realquest.com don't have a plat map available.... is there another way of getting a copy of it? thanks

Did you try logging directly onto the local county property appraiser's website? Or something along those lines. I'm not up on CA.

Call the county and ask for "mapping". Give them the schedule number. If you talk real nice sometimes they will fax you a copy of the map...other times you will have to go down there and pay for it.

Does your client require a plat map? Often times I won't include a plat map unless the cleint specifically requires one or there are unusual characteristics of the site. If you have a legal description and site dimensions you should be fine....

And, pray tell, how do you get the dimensions IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MAP?

From the legal description in some cases, from public records in others.....Our public records system provides frontage and depth.

Ask your client for a copy of the prelim. That should have it attached.

Why not take a trip to the courthouse? You do know where it is at, right?

In my market I have purchased CD's from 2 assessors offices that contain 99% of all sites in their jurisdiction. In others, the information is online and part of the tax records, in 1 it is searchable online with the entire plat online. In a couple of places it requires a trip to the courthouse. I do appraisals in 8 independent cities. In Virginia an independent City is not part of a county, has their own assessor, courts, police, fire, etc. I also do 2 counties in North Carolina. So, get a good map and locate the courthouse and go there if the plat is not available elsewhere.

Ditto Mike and Don.

Joe, here is the link to the county web site where you can search to find it and also down load it (for a fee).
