Carriage house

Can had a link to some Eastern PA listing that referenced a property as a carriage house.

In my area, it is an outbuilding that originally housed the stables and tack room for the main residence. Many now are garages with a living unit on the 2nd.

That is exactly what it is here in Bethlehem. Never heard carriage house applied in that way before.

Carriage house,

In reference to that particular listing in that particular community,

Is the FLUFF verbiage being used by Toll Brothers to UPSCALE the construction and the price.

It has no meaning in the real world, other than the name TOLL BROTHERS is using for this design model.

Otherwise, you're right. A carriage house held the carriage and perhaps a horse or two and the groom or driver had living quarters either on the second floor, attic, or at the back of the building. They were a Victorian Era construction for the cities, badges of wealth, so that the transportation and driver were close at hand to the master of the house.
