I just got a call saying they needed a certified appaiser to sign off on their insurance appraisals.

This is the basic idea of their process from what I gathered.

They go measure the property and get the construction information.

They put together a report and come up with a replacement cost.

They sign it and get an appraiser to review the report and sign it as well.

The fishy part is that they said it didn't matter if I was certified to do commercial work or not.

Anyone do this or heard of it?

Keep in mind. If you sign the report, you are 100% on the hook for the report.
Is it worth it?

The fishy part is not fishy at all. Anyone can do a commercial appraisal where the federally related transaction amout is less than $250,000. In fact anyone can do an appraisal where the FRTA is less than $250,000. As an appraiser you still must comply with USPAP, but you don't need the General.

Do you have experience with insurance appraisals?

Allowable or not... I do not sign off on work that I do not perform. Period.
