Hello,

Would like some recent answers to the age old question of what you think is the best test prep for the comp exam.

I only have the income section left.

I used Whitmer download materials (not in class) for the other sections. Logic might dictate using Whitmer again which is fine, but because this section is tougher, I think some of his problems are harder to follow or full explanation of the solutions is lacking.

Also, Gary DeWeese offers a two day webinar on the income approach, so any feedback there would be appreciated. I like the idea of forced studying, its just tough for me to attend classes in other states.

Thanks for all responses.

Joe

I've signed-up for Gary's class.

Gary is local, and I've had the benefit of taking many of the commercial and MAI classes from him.
The webinar is next August (two days one week and two days the following week).
Gary's told me that feedback from his students (his program is relatively new; I think he's had it up and running for a year) has been very positive.

All I know is this: I took Basic Income, Advanced Income, and Advanced Applications from Gary (along with General Market Analysis): I passed each class/exam without a hitch. I'm not a dummy, but when I took these courses, I did not have much commercial experience: so I think if he was able to instruct me (someone with limited experience at that time) and I passed the tests, an experienced person taking Gary's class would really be ahead of the game.

Good luck!

Gary Deweese is a top notch instructor. Smart guy. I have had him for upper level AI courses. I also only downloaded Whitmer materials and passed all modules except Income and had to retake Income. I passed on the retake. I would not really say I studied the materials very diligently either, as there is an overwhelming amount of Whitmer material to look over. Not all that helpful IMO.

Not sure how much the webinar is, but that sounds like a reasonable investment. I have not done it, but if I had known about a webinar last year I would have probably done it. Only thing available was an 4 day class in Houston which was too much time and money for me.

When I was preparing, I took Ted's class and found it very helpful. Helped me get a clear understanding on numerous things such as partitioning the IRR and others that I didn't 100% grasp in my prior courses. Passed all four modules the first attempt.

John Urubek has a course that is offered several times a year just prior to each comp "window". I just left the course and although I haven't taken the exam just yet, there were several people in the class who had taken Whitmer and had already sat for the comp. Their consensus was that John's class was the most useful. Not sure how he compares with DeWeese, but John is in the Chicago area and usually schedules his courses in Roanoke, VA.

He's also a great guy and a lot of fun between classes!

I can provide his contact info if anyone is interested.

Gary's material is great. I have flunked the income module a couple times....really just not studying the appropriate amount of time and making time for it. That said, Gary's material is top notch. He sends it in a power point presentation and it's nice because it does have some concept information in it but also, the questions are given on a page and then the next page is the solution. You don't need to make flashcards or search for the answers. Additionally the answers aren't on the same page, so you really do solve the problem without being over to glance over at the solution.. Anyway, good stuff, and really well organized. I know it's an old thread, but the next round of testing is soon at hand.

Another +1 for Gary. Great guy and great instructor.

I've only heard positive things about John. Ted has had the "go to" program for quite awhile.

I'd also review the original AI coursework. If you ask around, I'm sure some of your associates may have some of their material.

Ted's was good stuff. I passed three sections studying his material. I actually have failed the Income section a few times. Just no time to study and you can't wing it. I decided to give Gary's stuff a shot and it was great. I also forgot to mention that he would help me with any particular problems I had, just let him know. I won't take advantage, but if Im having trouble, I'm obliging. Also since I just bought the material for the income section, he did say if I needed to take the seminar, he would subtract the materials price off the seminar.

I think I am going to go through my Adv Income material more for this test (along with making time for it). Thanks

I just smashed the Income Module yesterday and I only studied Gary's stuff. Now please don't take that as just study his stuff...but that's all I did. I've also studied in the past, the Adv Income class lecture notes and book, and Ted Whitmer's stuff. I think they all contributed.
