Beth...are you an AI member? If yes, contact the executive director. I'm sure she could help you get some references/suggestions.

I have a good IT guy that works with me...has for about 6 years. Pretty proficient and works with Alamode folks well. We have worked through several hard drive crashes sucessfully. Unfortunately, 3 hour drive to Richmond.

Beth - When I had the dreaded blue screen last year I was referred to Mr Tech Support. They are located on Willow Lawn Drive in Richmond. The came out to my house - near Ashland and retreived the blasted computer - took it away and brought it back fixed - they are very reasonable. I am not sure if they will be familiar with appraisal software but for general computer support I highly recommend them. I'm going to use XP for as long as humanly possible.
Win7 works as well -or better - since malware has a big problem affecting it.
Still, until you need to upgrade, probably for a hardware-based reasons, why pay $100 for Win7 ??

Windows 7 rocks. I thought the same thing about keeping my XP machine going as long as possible. My old XP machine was having trouble keeping up with all of the stuff I was doing. I upgraded and love the current set up. The use of Libraries as well as other file systems in Win 7 is pretty sweet.

Well the next upgrade of SFREP requires 64bit, so until SFREP stops working, I won't be upgrading anything.

If you are not computer savy, I suggest you buy alamodes "vault". You will get a seamless restore of all your ALM data and databases with automatic transfer. I prefer to do it manually since I use a triple redundant backup syatem, but that would be the simplest way to approach it. Not free, but simple.
