They are political appointees and I am willing to bet they have made substantial political contributions to the Sheriff and/or his party. Their payoff, a job paying more than $150k per year, seems excessive in my opinion. The Sheriff's quote that most appraisers in private practice make more than his appointees is ridiculous. The Sheriff would have no problem finding licensed appraisers in this county to work for far less than most of these folks are making. Maybe he should increase the number of appointees and get some more contributors for his next re-election?

And I applaud those counties as long as the people performing the appraisals are licensed, certified or general appraisers in the State of Ohio.

The number did not even register negatively with me because I have seen the SOW, figured they were driven to properties like they are in ours and efficient, trained professional could do 10 to 15 a day.

My beef, plain and simple is that unlicensed people are doing these. If the state goes to the trouble to license people, they should hire these people.

Calvin-FORGET USPAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The "appraisers" doing this work are required to own property in that county. That is the ONLY requirement and if a licensed/certified appraiser were lucky enough to get their name on this list they would NOT be required to comply with USPAP. (I checked this out for a friend a year or two ago and spoke with the State and they verified it with one of their attorneys.)
