Not an appraisal question. More of a personal cost question.

Let's say there is a duplex, one unit right on top of the other.

Let's say this duplex can legally be turned into an SFR.

How much do you estimate it would cost to install an internal staircase between the two floors when none was there before (assuming it can legally and structurally be done)?

Thanks.

Let's say, there are other places on the internet you should be asking this question, probably a home contractor website/forum would be a good start.

I'll just add, maybe a little, maybe a lot. We are not construction experts, and you probably did not give enough info if we were. Try this link.

I had a stair case installed to create a duplex condo down first floor to basement level. Cut hole in floor, reconfigure floor joists and build staircase. Paid around $3,500 very good quality finish as the units were top of the market at that time.

Good luck, but that's a start. If you carpet and don't get too fancy that would probably do it today. (lumber has gone up quite a bit though)
