Riick-Now the way *I* heard it was that termite technology stopped at 15" - they don't build mounds any higher.
However, can't find any support for this on the WWW.
There was a book written back in the early 70's called "The Foxfire Book" which explained that people who settled in the Appalachian Mountains would build a base of stone or brick to a height of 15" on which the log cabin was then built under the assumption that termites did not build mounds higher than 15".
