Digital Camera

I am in the process of upgrading my digital camera. Any ideas which brand or model serves best with a la mode? I guess the essential elements are long lasting battery, good amont internal memory, 3x zoom and weather resistance.

Try to find one that has a lens aperture equivalent to 28 mm (wide angle) for interiors, shallow back yards. Very few cameras go wider than amout 35 mm equivalent.

I can tell you that the Kodak line of cameras is the most popular line of all the makes. They have a new twin lens camera that goes to 28 mm.

Actually, the Kodak v570 has a fixed 23mm (equiv) lens and a 39mm - 117mm (equiv) zoom lens. 5MP, SD card, etc. One thing of note is that neither lens protrudes from the already thin camera body. Also, this camera has an "in-camera" image stitching feature which allows you to combine multiple images together for a panoramic type shot. Overall, our customers tell us that they love this little camera. Several have posted shots on threads here. We also posted some in a blog. The shots were not great - it was getting dark and it was the first day we had it and wanted to get some sample pix uploaded fast since people had been asking about it. Randy took some typical residential shots the other day, but we forgot to get them from him before he left for Australia, so we won't be able to upload them until he gets back.

Also, there has been some mention of an upper-end version of the v570 - the v610 - and while that camera is a 6.1MP camera, it does NOT have the same wide angle lens compliment. That camera has a 38mm - 114mm (equiv) zoom and a 130mm - 380mm (equiv) set-up. While the long zoom may sound attractive, it is the wide angle (23mm equiv) lens on the v570 that garners the most praise from appraisers.

I recently got a Nikon "Cool Pics" 8700. It has the 28mm wide angle which is perfect for interior shots with no distortion. Also has an awesome zoom. 8 Megapixel. Nice camera but I still miss my Mavica.

A little item that I just discovered on my Nikon CP 4300 after 2.5 years (no-- I did not read the instruction manual!) is a setting called "copy". It shoots the photos in B&W. I now set my camera at "Fine" with photo size 1024 pixels when I go into the field and resize after I download to the two storage files. Yesterday, doing a house, the people had a revised survey and a couple of other docs that they could not let me take with me. I switched to "copy" mode, shot photos of the docs and when I got back to the office, immediately printed these photos to .pdf files to put in the Master file. Now I have a copy of the survey and the other docs that I can SnagIt into the report.

This is just such a handy setting, I'm surprised that I missed it all of these years.

I see it doesn't have a viewfinder - Is this a problem in sunlight ? ? or is the
Display adequate

Does it turn on quickly ? ? ?

I will be turning in my Bank issued camera and needing to buy one in the near future..
