Disposal and septic tank

If you peel 50-potatoes and put the skins down a disposal, then your probably asking for trouble. If you clean the scraps off the plate into the regular garbage, and just putting minor stuff down the drain, then I doubt its a serious long run problem. If you crap big, I'd think that would fill up a septic tank faster. YMMV

I have both. We dump most of the solids in the trash but when cleaning pans there can be a bit of extra on them. Eggs stuck to the bottom of a pan for example. Those extras can sometimes get stuck in the plumbing. If I didn't have a garbage disposal, I'd use the strainer. I just don't want to touch the gross if I don't have to. I pump our septic every two or three years and help the guy that does it. It's was $500 last time. The biggest culprit was the plush toilet paper that my wife prefers. I didn't see any food scraps at all. Not even corn.

Disposals and septic tanks don't work well together
I have a disposal and a septic. The septic is over 30 years old and never been pumped and the field never surfaces. I've never had a problem, but I don't try to stuff a whole cow down the disposal, and I throw out the big stuff for the coons and possums. I am on my 3rd disposal - they last about 10 years use them or not. BTW, run some ice cubes through them occasionally and they work better.
