Do any states require residency to be an appraiser

50 States, 50 different rules times thousands of different agencies. Plus the feds, with their own rules and regulations regarding residency for tax purposes, investment purposes, voting purposes etc. I not sure where where I "offictially" reside, except the PO box seems the safest answer.
 
I am certified in two states and the ASC lists the multiple certifications. The state I'm located in lists my business address and my out of state certification provides my current home address. They both know where to find me.

Sounds like compliance to me.

If you move to a new home or a new business address....are you required to notify your state board ( or both of them)?

One state, two states or ten states.....do you have to notify the state board (or boards) when your address changes?
 
Just an FYI and a did you consider:

Michigan has similar wording that the head of an AMC must be certified appraiser or attorney,

Michigan also has a set of definitions within the proposed AMC law which defines "certified appraiser" as one who has complied with and obtained a license under Article 26 (which is the Michigan law for appraiser licensing.)

Does the state AMC code you are referring to have similar definitions?
 
I live in Minnesota and am required to take a test to obtain a license for Wisconsin. If I pass it the certification is reciprocal. You can obtain a temporary appraisal permit in Mn without being domiciled in this state. I believe your certification status is acceptable as well?

No. The original version required a Certified General, living in the State of NC to be desginated as"compliance officer" for every AMC.

As I said, the final version that became law says at a a certied appraiser (no longer reqrired to a CG) and no longer requied to reside in NC.
 
wonder who paid the big bucks to have the "within the state" removed???

because our law has the definitions, the law also restricts review appraisals conforming with standard 3 to those licensed within our state (Yeah!) at least as I read it.

only thing left out, in my opinion, was a link between the AMC and the lender, just in case of an appraiserloft issue. but, perhaps there are other ways to skin a cat in that situation . . .
 
My "guess" is that 95% of the "Chief Appraisers" have never completed a 1004 UAD form and are reporting appraisers for violations where they themselves do not hold a license. This is scary stuff. What's even more scary? A company compiling a database of these complaints!
 
A worthy database would be one that tracks the Dodd Frank complaints filed against AMC's by homeowners, banks, chief and other bank appraisers and fee appraisers. Might as well add HUD, VA, Fannie and Freddie to the party too.
