I have an idea for those of you that need some additional income while the appraisal business is slow. FEMA uses two contractors to do their disaster housing inspections whenever the President declares a Federal disaster.

PaRR Inspections is the first one and PB Disaster Services is the other one. You can go online and register. Both companies offer free training throughout the year and they also have online training as well. I have worked with FEMA over the years since 1992 and my wife is currently working as a sub-contractor.

You will need to have a background check and finger printing done by the Dept. Of Homeland Security.

The pay is very good but you have to pay your own expenses while out in the field.

thanks for the idea!! happy July 4th

Scott, I know another Home Inspector that does this regularly. He says its rewarding financially and helping folks out has its own rewards, but includes long hours in unfavorable conditions. The closest thing to a for profit Peace Corps from FEMA, but still tough. If I hit the lottery, I will donate my time, otherwise, I can't leave my existing business. Those that can should check it out.

Rex, I know what you are saying. I can't afford to leave my business either. I used to work for them here locally when there would be disasters in East Tennessee. My wife is gone right now and is working in IL. She was in IN before that, AK before that, and GA before that.

It is very hard work and it is rewarding too. It is not a cush job.

I ain't no stinkin', craw space crawlin' inspector, I is an appraiser.
Thanks all the same, I'll do narrative, discounted cash flow analysis
before I'll get on my knees.

From what I understnd, the FEMA folks don't belly crawl. I do as a HI. Put me on my belly and I crawl like a reptile. Chcks seem to appreciate the reptile effect/effort.:clapping:

I don't need additional work, I just need more $$$$
PO Box 83 folks....send it.

I have been watching too much Ghost Hunters lately.
I ain't going anywhere where it's dark and moist.

The FEMA inspection is from the ground. No crawling and no climbing.

Anybody consider bankruptcy attorneys? We had 8 bankruptcy appraisals last month. If you're in a high foreclosure area (who isn't?) you might consider it. Clients pay in cash, no hassle with appointment times (they're happy to meet you!), and I've yet to get a call from the lawyer lambasting me about the property value.
