My daughter applied to Harvard and didn't get in. I blame that on DOGE. Universities with uncertainty in funding are cutting back in admissions, academia, and research.

Fern, my daughter graduated 2nd in her class in dental school and couldn't get accepted in Memphis to specialize in pediatric dentistry. Augusta pediatrics dental school begged her to come.

She had to move to Augusta and specialized and moved back to Germantown near me with her husband who is Dr. of physical therapy.

Your daughter will just have to look at another avenue.

Encourage her. Don't quit pushing her.

The number 1 student in her dental school class didn't accept a bid from Memphis so it made no sense to anybody. Politics is involved sometimes.

She still got to specialize at a different school and did well.

Trump, Musk & Doge have been in place for less than two months. Harvard’s endowment has more than $53,000,000,000 in it. So I don’t think qualified people are being turned away because of the lack of “Government” funding. As far as I am concerned all colleges and universities should be forced to spend down their endowments to a point equal to say 20% of their annual operating budget.

Harvard only accepts 3.2 of its applicants. Also with the exception of special early applications which are due in early November, with notification in December. All other applicants are notified between MARCH AND JUNE. So either she was rejected during Biden’s Presidency or she has not been notified or her final status.

Healthcare in this country is a disaster. Unless you are wealthy, you can expect to see a nurse practitioner for primary care. Then there's the issue of cost. Profit-driven insurance companies have priced most people out of actual healthcare. Overall, Obamacare has been a disaster.

My daughter is graduating and applied to only Harvard for a graduate program which she liked.
Bad timing this year when Trump cuts research funds to the universities which indirectly expand student access.
Even Stanford with its $30+ billion endowment has cut back its hiring and spending.
Stanford had option to buy a college nearby to expand its campus but last week decided not to exercise that option.
When US doesn't invest in young people and research, our innovation and success in new knowledge hinder our nation's future.

When US doesn't invest in young people and research

We invest in K-12 and the more we invest the worse the outcome has become, that's what the problem is. Too many college students don't have the requisite education to succeed in college and end up with worthless degrees. As far as research is concerned, a lot of that money is wasted on research that provides nothing useful. We shell out research grants for the same research at different universities. Research should be consolidated in some instances, which would result in making more money available for expanding research in other areas. Too much money is wasted on administrative and duplicative infrastructure
