Subject has exterior which I normally would call asbestos shingle.
Since I'm not certain it's asbestos shingle and not call it out, is there a more general term for such looking shingles.
I was thinking Cement shingle.

I describe it as Asbestos Cement Siding or Asbestos Stucco Exterior.

When left alone and intact, siding with asbestos poses no risk to human health. The risk is breathing in the asbestos if the siding is broken.
Don't break the siding and breath in the particles.

Siding with asbestos was estimated to last 20 to 50 years. There are homes in my market built from the 1910's through the 1950's with siding containing asbestos. When properly maintained it looks very good and will probably last another 100 years.

i always go generic with term shingle. why tire their brain with more detail and more typing. the only problem with them is that they seem to get chipped corners, but they do seem to last a long time.

composite shingles ??

Modern "asbestos" shingles are now fiberglass cement shingles. Identical. So you don't know but if built before 1989, they are likely asbestos. After almost certainly are fiberglass-cement.

Be sure to blur all photos so they won't notice and ask about them. Misleading your client adds work.

Mineral shingles. Can't be accused of lying. You could mention that they "could" contain asbestos. Most don't make an issue of it unless the shingles have become friable. My grandmother's house had the old asbestos shingles. But prior to cement, fiberglass etc. they did make replacements that looked identical but did not contain asbestos

How do I know if my shingles have asbestos?
The only way to know for sure is to have an experienced, certified asbestos building inspector take samples of the different materials present, and send them to a certified laboratory

Don't call it that! All kinds of red flags will fly. Call them asphalt siding shingles.

Nope. Not the same thing. Asphalt siding was generally referred to as Inselbrick (brand name) or Insulbrick . Same material as asphalt shingles. The most popular had a "brick" design (thus the name). But it was little more than asphalt roofing used as siding
