Homes are fairly small around here anyway, but the new construction trend of smaller homes has been around for the past 10 years. Ceiling heights have gone up, but overall GLA is down.
I'm a big proponent of downsizing. Lived in bigger houses, but it really is a waste. Energy, time cleaning/maintaining, not to mention how you tend to fill space you have with useless crap. Wife and I live in about 1100sqft with about a 700sqft walkout basement. Got 2 car garage and a small barn for the toys. It's plenty of space....a little cramped with overnight visitors, but it works.
My parents live in a 6000sqft mcmansion for just 2 of them with no grandkids. No idea why, but all they do is ***** about how big it is and what a PITA it is.
