Has anyone ever heard of GenStar insurance company? It is being sold by OREP, and is somehow related to Working Real Estate magazine. When you buy the policy you also pay $50 or so to join something (I'm not sure what). I ask because my E & O expires at the end of January, and to renew is almost $2,000. This outfit offers coverage at around $600 or so. But is it real? Do any of you know anything about this company? The're out of California. Thanks for your input.

I have their coverage, I have not had to use it (knock on wood so thus far no prob) If you switch companies you will need retro insuracne to cover your past work from the other company. I think they only go one or two years back.

I have their coverage too. They are part of the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group. You should get a tail policy from your current provider to cover the appraisals for at least the past year.

I have General Star through www.landy.com
You dont have to pay any fees to sign up. Prior work is covered under policy.

I have 500,000/1,000,000 E&O insurance for $572 per year.

Same here, although thought mind was $520 per year. Haven't had to use them (knock on wood), but have emailed questions and they've been very helpful.

Mr. Woodruff - OREP is a a broker who publishes a magazine and also writes E & O Insurance. I am from the Herbert H Landy Insurance Agency nd we are the National Administrator for the General Star Real Estate Appraiser E & O Program. You can access the General Star program directly with us or choose any broker you want. Some charge fees, others do not. OREP does charge the $50.00 fee. General Star is owned by Warren Buffett and is a Berkshire Hathaway Company. It is rated the highest financial stable rating offered.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have it through OREP also, along with my health insurance. I joined OREP so I could get group health insurance since I'm not eligible for individual coverage. Never had any problems with them.

Glad to hear that you are happy with them and that they can offer you the health insurance as well.

I have been with LSI for the past 13 years; however, they are raising their rates across the board this year. Thank you for the information regarding this company, I will check out their rates.

You can go directly to www.Landy.com to the Real Estate Appraiser page and get either apply online or download an application for completion. We write more than $17,000 Real Estate Appraisers across the country through General Star.

If you want to tell me where you are located and whether you do residential or commercial appraisals I can give you an idea on price.:)
