Eminent Domain Case

The Injustice of Eminent Domain
The government's manipulation of eminent domain shows there's no universal right to private property.

THE DISTRICT OF Columbia recently filed suit in D.C. Superior Court to use eminent domain to take control of a piece of land the city needs to placate D.C. United, the District's major league soccer team. Without the land, D.C. United may leave for Virginia. This is just another in a growing list of local governments using the policy of eminent domain to enrich other private citizens, rather than for essential public uses. It's a policy only big business or a government bureaucrat could love.

That's a 14 year old case.

Since that time, Kelo happened and many states passed laws preventing this type of abuse of power and now its much more difficult, in some states, impossible, to use eminent domain for the benefit of private companies.

you will find that the overwhelming majority of what djd copy/pastes is old new that just shows up when you google a topic. he has no original thoughts, just aspiring to be like kennedy. at least mike uses colors..

"They're trying to bully people:" Landowners ready for Foxconn public hearing Tuesday

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A public hearing detailing plans to make the Foxconn facility a reality is set for Tuesday night.

The village president calls the $10 billion investment a once in a generation opportunity.

A Mount Pleasant woman claims those plans threaten her dream home.

Kimberly Mahoney says her family spent nearly $400,000 customizing their dream home. They moved in February 2017. Her house rests where the new Foxconn development will be.

Since nothing has happened yet, its a non-story. When/if a court decides, then it will be a story.

I suppose some people are still pissed about Lincoln and the transcontinental railroad. While in the middle of the Civil War, he also directed the building of the railroad. Since all of the money available was going to the war effort, he authorized the railroad to go ahead and build and they received a section of land on each side of the rail bed as payment. Hence, the old 'the railroad threw us off of our land' stories.

I know that one still burns me up. Not to mention all of the land stolen for the Interstate system. Grrrr! :)

Old case, new case, you are just going to try to spin it away. New laws to stop private-public "takings" seem to be shallow. And why wouldn't they be, big money corporations are people, too.
