Have a freind going through the Relo process, she handed me the list for me to help them pic, but I didn't recognize any names. They might be allowed to recommend one on their own (per their Relo company)

Anyone here ERC approved that might be interested?

They live in Walled Lake, Oakland County....

Dean Helsom is not too bad...not sure if he goes that far south. Louise Braun is pretty good, I'm sure she is on it.

This is a case where Realtor recommendations make sense. Most Realtors working with RELO properties want them priced correctly and will recommend appraisers who have the chops to do them right. I'd put in a call or two to some local agents who handle a lot of these properties. When Pfizer pulled out of Ann Arbor, the local Realtors in the know recommended the appraisers who knew what they were doing and had a lot of experience with the relocation process. A lot of inexperienced RELO appraisers got in on this work (not due to recommendations, but due to too few experienced appraisers to handle the volume) and did not do the best of jobs suffice it to say...

Go to the ERC Web Site, http://www.ERC.org it will list all of the members and where they specialize in Relocation Appraisals.

OK. A dumb question from a CR.

How does one become an "Approved" ERC Appraiser??

I really didn't see anything on the ERC.org site about special training or proof of work. Just fill out an application and send a fee.

Am I missing something??

Glen,

You can become a member of ERC and will be listed on their website. I was (and am) not on their website. I did many ERC reports for Prudential in Iowa. I also did some for a couple other companies. To get on Prudential's list is not easy and once you are on it you had better be good. I tracked the sales of the ERC properties I did and was within 3% on average. Appraisers who cannot predict the sales price get booted as they should.

It is very challenging work, but it makes you a better appraiser.

You should not even think about doing this kind of assignment without taking a class on it.

I had heard there is a 7 or 10 module training that is not cheap to be able to get ERC approved.

Helped out (aka followed around) on a few several years ago (before the market went splat). Definitely tough and demanding work. Don't they grade you on the reports too??
