I just had a lender request a FHA appraisal for an Owner Occupied HECM (home equity conversion mortgage) reverse mortgage transaction. The lender said given the loan program and loan amount, that a FHA case number is not needed for the appraiser.

Is this true? I have never heard of a FHA appraisal not needing a case number...

Sounds like they are value shopping to me. I would request a copy of the case # assignment sheet before I would even set up the appointment and then request the payment be COD for the appraisal. Something does not sound right with this one.

Neither have I. Your client knows not of what he/she speaks.

Ask them if they can still see outside with their head so far up there.:icon_mrgreen:
