Calling Illinois Appraisers

I'm FHA approved, and hold a 154 license in Illinois, do I need a higher level of state license to do FHA work in Illinois. I'm also a licensed residential appraiser in Indiana and do FHA work there, but I seem to recall that I needed to become a certified residential appraiser to do FHA appraisals in Illinois.

Regards, Kevin

I don't think it is the state's determination, but the FHA's determination on whether to place you on the approved list for the area that determines whether you can do FHA appraisals in a given area. I don't believe the FHA would waive their perogatives in the matter. Check with the FHA regional office for the answer. In my state, Oklahoma, the Appraiser Board said that State licensed appraisers were not qualified to do FHA appraisals, but the FHA placed me on the approved list (the board members I think wanted to reduce competition).
