If you have ever torn down an old double hung windowed house, you probably find several of those old window sash weights that have fell down over the years. Those braided cotton ropes didn't last forever...and it was a pain to install new ones.

Now the question is why did he even open or close the aluminum frame windows anyways.

Yep, my first two houses and a couple of my old rentals had the cast iron weights in the sashes. Major PITA to repair.

The stick method (even a piece of window casing) is good enough and holds the window open.

Of course, the problem with the property is somehow always the appraiser's fault.

I'm sure that's how they will see it.

FHA makes you open the windows during the inspection...

I remember using the stick method on a few houses when I was a kid, especially behind the sliding glass door for security...
