Flash Drives?

Need to speed up my desktop computer. Have 2 slots that can hold 1 GB each, currently have 1 1 GB chip. If I just plug a flash or zip drive in my USB port does this really increase memory by 2-4GBs? Seems a lot cheaper than buying another chip? Thanks.

A usb flash drive is a hard drive not memory (RAM). The flash drive will increase your storage space but won't speed up your computer at all. An additional stick of RAM is well worth the money. Try out newegg.com.

Do you have Norton running or have you had Norton on your computer? If you have, this may be slowing your system down. Norton leaves things on your computer that slows it way down. I have also heard that XP optimizes at 1 gig. Adding more RAM will not really help your system if you have 1 gig already.

Just a suggestion......
I have a local computer store that I trust. I have a recent laptop, but I have purchased a used Dell Inspiron laptop (Pentium 3) for backup, for like, 300 bucks, that does everything I need.

I would stay away from Toshiba laptops, which years ago was the 'drop test' winner (as in, being dropped on the ground onto different surfaces from varying heights to see which brand would last the longest) year after year. Not any more.....
