I'm new to Florida and find it expensive to join the MLS. I was told I need to join the NAR, Local Florida chapter and then the MLS (Stellar). I don't understand why appraisers must join the NAR as we are not Realtor or Brokers. It seems like the NAR is extorting fees for access to MLS.

If you join the NAR then you are a Realtor.

A Realtor is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

It is the cost of doing business and you can write off the expenses, just like your appraisal software and computer paper.

Stellar is one of the cheaper ones in the state, and you get 14 counties of data for the price. There are some associations in the state that charge $1,000 plus just for access, not counting NAR dues.

Simple. Because NAR controls the state FLAR and they control the data. The data is not free. It is paid for by the people that use it. Appraisers use the MLS more than most agents. The Realtor can't just let anyone in and out of these houses. They want a connection so there is some oversight of the appraiser. It is what it is.

Get your RE license. I got mine. Makes it easy to have a Supra and get access to the gated communities for comp photos when needed. Comes in handy, hell, you might even sell a house here and there. Welcome to FL. I moved here 3 years ago and its still BOOMING!
