This might or might-not be the correct thread but I'm seeking a response from peer Appraisers:

I am submitting an application for an appraisal "position" on a public fee panel that requires min of reference letters from two appraisers.

I am hoping that the gentleman who mentored me 25 years ago will provide one letter of recommendation.....but I DON'T KNOW EVEN THE BASIC CONTACT INFO FOR ANOTHER APPRAISER ANYWHERE WITHIN 1000 MILES. Of course I don't belong to an appraisal organization of any kind, but I'm just wondering whether my scenario is typical or whether peers routinely interact with their local peetrs? [Just curious...}

Hire an appraiser to review your work and provide a letter of recommendation.

Ask for a recommendation from one of the AMC's you work with.

Do they have to be active appraisers? On a personal level, I know more retired appraisers than active appraisers and if I need to update my resume or use a reference I would use one of them. Another one would be appraisers I have a relationship with at real banks who are in management or reviewing. Of the latter, some of them I've never met in person, but would feel comfortable reaching out to them to ask to be a reference.

Ask for a recommendation from one of the AMC's you work with.

Believe it or not I could possibly do that. Two of the AMCs I do work for only use CR or CG for their quality control and reviews. I spend more time shooting the breeze when I call them as opposed to the appraisal reason I called them
