Other than leaving at 5 AM is there anyway around this thing? How about Montauk Highway as an alternate? I got caught in the jam up the other day and I can only guess it will get much worst as the season progresses.

:icon_idea: rent a motorcycle for the day. rent a balloon to air lift you:unsure: , do a cupple Boat-bys (telephotos from the ocean):Eyecrazy: or my fave >>>>>>>>>>>> take the day off - hit the beach.:rof: not much help........sorry.

It's hopeless!

I don't make appointments before 10:00. I also try to avoid Fridays appointments during the summer.

There's no real way around it either. They've blocked the left hand turn of of Sunrise during trade parade hours.

The only way I know of to save a few minutes is to make a right off Sunrise past the gas station (the one right after the Lobster Inn), go over the tracks, and make a left on McGregor. There's a No Thru Traffic sign there, but it doesn't stop the locals.:) That'll bring you down to Montauk, but then you'll have to cross traffic to make a left. It might cut 10-15 minutes off of the commute.

The only thing you can do is take the exit after the Canal and follow the "group " to the right hand turn over 27 to the side road then at the end, if you make a left you will end up at the gas Staion that David had mentioned.....or make a right and follow Davids directions...

ALSO...updated...

I thought that shut down the North Road intersection with Sunrise...but I haven't tried it recently.

They did but if you make a right turn on ...(you made me pull out the map...darn yankee fan..LOL..) on Peconic Road from North Road it will take you over Sunrise to LONGVIEW Rd (left turn)(which is closed when they do the cone thing)...which will lead to Hills Station Road...which is just to the south of the Gas Staion you refered to.....

Good backup plan, like it. Just wondering how much of the "group" turns this into a secondary parade? I guess one could also go the other way to Montauk Hwy and either come up Peconic Rd to Long View Rd or up Tuckahoe Rd. While we are on this fascinating subject, I noted that the reverse commute starts fairly early out there.

Next I'll be looking into South Fork road-food lunch stops. Where can a lowly appraiser get a decent sangvich and a cup of coffee for under $10 :)

Yes...it does turn into a secondary parade...but it is faster....now for the lunch.......I usually stop at the 7-11 on the corner of CR 39 and North Sea Rd....the one with the Large group of "economically diverse, under privileged, over crowed, persons of diverse and ethnically challenged individuals and do not have a certain color card, who don't speak English to well....as for the sandwich...it's usually in the lunch box in the rear of the Crusier....or I hit the burger King on the way out.....a little healthier then the golden arces.....
