Are handrails still required for steps 3 or more, leading to a residence? Also, on the same front porch with no handrail, one of the side rails is gone so tecnically someone could fall off the porch. I would assume that this would need correction but wanted to double check. Your input is greatly appreciated!!

If the steps are not 3 or more do not call for a rails. This includes the raised porch.
I did one for a raised porch with two steps.I was told to remove it....

The Homeownership Center Reference Guide Index may have the answer that you require, it has assisted me with some of the FHA inspections that I have completed.
An appraiser working for the HUD homeownership center referred me to it....he said that FHA requirements are in this guide.

If the missing handrail impacts the safety of the occupant(s), it must be repaired. Please see link below.

According To The Current Regs This Only Comes Into Play If Here Is A Safety Issue. And By The Way
You May Want To Check The FHA "FAQ". Steps Are Not The Issue, But Rather Risers Are. You Can Have 2 Steps And The Stoop And In Other Words 3 Risers, But Not 3 Steps.

O.K..3 Risers not steps.Just don't call for a rail if it's less than 3.Except if you are over a an alligator pen...

Please reference the source of the current 3 riser rule in the FHA protocol.

Check previous threads. We went over this issue extensively not 2 weeks ago.

Thank you to all that responded. I appreciate the input.
