Hello! I am currently 17 and live in michigan. I am extremely interested in becoming an appraiser as I have some background in the real estate business. However, i am unsure on how to obtain my license (what company to go through and what i need) as all the resources i have found from my state are lengthy and all around confusing. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Was gonna PM you but membership too new. No quick path to that license. Have you considered assessing instead? Could practically start tomorrow...

You can try to find an appraiser who needs a part time typist or an office assistant. You can try to get your feet wet that way.

I have not however I am open minded! I just created this account recently, can i Pm you?

Since you are only 17, between college and a mentorship with a good appraiser, it will probably be a decade before you will be competent enough to go out on your own. Appraising pays well once you are fully trained but its also a long term goal like being a lawyer.

Suggest calling your city/township/village assessor and ask a few questions. I can do more but not in this venue.

Concur, start in assessing if you are looking to stay local.

If you want to go into appraising right from University, Consider going to a university that offers the coursework program aligns with the licensing coursework (Qualifying education) requirements, I believe Texas A&M had one. There may be others.
