any tips?

You know what sucks about this business, you think you can take your experience anywhere in the US, but, lenders, agents, sellers, want local experienced professionals. Tip? Get a part time job and work work work your market until you are established, the orders will flood in for an appraiser that is at least 5 years in to his/her market area.

Part time job doing for a bank? I’m working for an established appraiser but he doesn’t really share enough for me to make enough money. I’m meeting up with another one after the holiday I’m hoping 2 can keep me busy enough.

Part time work at doing whatever you can do.

Get another source of income, log your FL appraisal hours as you can. Maybe some desktop stuff for NJ if times are that tough?

The CAMA or assessor appraisers jobs...check into them. Also, adjusters for property insurers. Many companies have both staff and outsource during storm events, etc.

Not many Drive-by's these days. Yet. Foreclosures are on the increase so they will increase. The desktop products are equally scare and almost not profitable.

You are in Florida and in that market there are many areas that have way too many appraisers. Being newly certified doesn't help much as many clients want 3 or 5 years experience. Ever thought about a staff appraiser job with an AMC (ugh, can't believe I typed that)?

That was brave of you and I will chime in...if the OP needs work that badly consider applying as a staff or fee appraiser with etro West or Forysthe ( though staff appraiser for them still is often just an independent contractor and I have heard they even allow the appraiser to take on some outside work ).
