HELP WITH MODULAR HOMES.

JoAnne,

A number of stick-built homes have been moved up to the San Juans from the Seattle area. They came mostly from the runway expansions at SeaTac airport over the years, but recently there have been several houses moved up from Medina, a very pricey neighborhood on the shores of Lake Washington.

Since all of these houses were built prior to June 1976, I think this gives a whole new twist to the definition of "MOBILE HOME"!!

Cheers,

Nancy

"Move ons" are not that unusual. Forty years ago we lived in a "move on" in Flagstaff that had been moved from the old mining town of Jerome. Jerome is on the side of a mountain, where a home can be three stories and all at ground level. Between Jerome and Flagstaff is Oak Creek Canyon, the second "canyon" that tourists travel from all over the world to see. Our house was a stick built, one level. Jerome is known as a ghost town because it went from 20,000 population down to about a 1,000 and when the people left, the houses did too. It is larger now because it has become quite the "in" place to live and artists are renovated the three story homes. It is also the town that has a jail that slide down the mountain and finally stopped moving. Fifty miles northeast of my current home is the second largest open pit mine and they keep moving company houses out of the way to expand the pit. So you can see why I have become cynical about worrying manufactured homes moving--site built do too! Those big houses in the path of the freeway could be purchased for about $1000 but it could cost $25,000 to $50,000 to move to their new location. Some were moved close to 200 miles from Phoenix. And some a block away from the new freeway.
