So Pop was at least 170 years old when you knew him?
I don't think age alone creates a historic house. The provinance (sp?) is just as important. I've done several (a queen anne built by a redwood timber baron and on the national registry, a strange wood shingle mansion built by Russian fur trappers, also on the national registry, a house with an original 19th century winery in Sonoma, a former stage stop along Black Bart's notorious route)
The data in my area seems to indicate that a prudent buyer will not pay a premium based on the history alone. But on the ones listed in the registry there are issues of what you can and can't do to the property that need to be addressed. I think this issue offsets the historical value, but that's just a guess.
