USC office removes 'field' from its curriculum, citing possible racist connotations​

The newly renamed Office of Practicum Education, formerly known as the Office of Field Education, within the university's Suzanne-Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, is making the change in order to be more inclusive, according to a memo sent out to faculty and students this week and obtained by NPR.

"This change supports anti-racist social work practice by replacing language that could be considered anti-Black or anti-immigrant in favor of inclusive language," the memo reads. "Language can be powerful, and phrases such as 'going into the field' or 'field work' may have connotations for descendants of slavery and immigrant workers that are not benign." The change at the USC school comes as a growing number of entities take steps to remove terminology with ties to slavery or racism.

I google what you are talking about but can't find UC banning the word Field.
USC is University of Southern California and not UC. USC is a private institution and they can do whatever they want like admitting legacies who are not academically qualified.

"Master" was common as the descriptor for main bedroom/bathroom 20 years ago. It didn't become offensive until the 2000s sometime

I used Master Lock brand in the locker room since high school. I still use it.

Where did I say it did? I'm just saying its more of a false veil of something being done. I still occasionally see the asking for a comp check and we need $zzz,zzz can you meet that? I choose to not work for those outfits. I don't see how Dodd Frank has prevented the risk taking that lenders can take by hiring number hitters and not using appraisers with credible reports.

WOW. Academia worried about a word while Rome burns all around us. I used to subscribe to The Economist a long time ago when I actually read about the world. I wonder if that magazine has ever written about the USA woke society, or is Europe equally affected???

Actually most of Europe is now more conservative then us, That was not true until the last 5 years but now even they think we have fipped our lids.
