I used to routinely work 12-hour days, the yellow-brick road to burnout city.

I feel like I live and breathe appraisal work right now. If I'm not accepting, bidding, scheduling, calling realtors, typing, inspecting, driving, or photo taking, I'm asleep. I'm still a noob though, so it probably takes me much longer than the average appraiser's report-writing time. I can't imagine what it'll be like with the new form. I'm already exhausted thinking about it. I should add I still work under someone, so I'm always at work from 8-5, regardless of holidays (minus Christmas and Thanksgiving). Then, I head home to be present with my family till 9, when everyone lies down, and then I'm back at it till the wee morning hours and do it all over again. I'm off Sat and Sun, but I usually write reports from Friday's inspections randomly throughout the weekend. I'm still a happy camper and constantly learning, so that's a plus. Never thought my car would have over $280,000 miles on it either, but here we are... HA!

Most people think it is candy job. Welcome to the real world.

Reminds me when 1004MC came out. It took more effort and time and we weren't getting compensated.
That was an additional one page.
The new UAD abomination form will be multiple pages. Ugh.

I feel like I work all the time. But then, I only get paid for some of the time.

My restaurant tenant sold his business last year.
Now he still works there and get paid hourly. Some people like to get paid by the hour.

I am in the 12-16 hour range if you add the time I put in on weekends to the work week. I expected this January to be slow, but based on the assignments that have had come in, this is going to be a busy month as well. I guess I will have to stick to my mantra, "I just need to get through the next couple of weeks, then things will be better."

. . . . I've only been saying that every week for 20+ years!

Kinda the reason that it is difficult to explain to a person who is considering a part time appraisal career... why it's simply not possible...

I usually start before 7 am. I quit for the day by 5:00-5:30 pm. I very rarely work on weekends or holidays.
