GM July U.S. Sales Fell 22%, Ford U.S. Sales Down 19.1% - Update [GM]

8/1/2007 3:36:47 PM On Wednesday, General Motors Corp. (GM) announced sales results for the month of July, reporting that total U.S. vehicle sales fell 22% on an unadjusted basis, due to a cutback in fleet sales to daily rental companies and a challenging industry. Adjusted for one additional selling day in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period last year, GM's July U.S. sales were down 18.5%. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co. (F) said its U.S. auto sales fell 19.1% in July, partially as the result of a planned reduction in fleet sales. German-American automaker DaimlerChrysler AG (DCX) said its July U.S. sales fell 9% on losses at both its Chrysler and Mercedes divisions. Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. (TM) said its U.S. auto sales fell 7.3% in July on lower demand for passenger cars. Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (HMC) U.S. sales fell 7.1%, while Nissan North America Inc. (NSANY) recorded a 1.7% gain in U.S. sales.
