How do YOU determine occupancy status?

That was what I intended to do, assuming someone couldn't tell me a better way to arrive at an answer. Thanks.
get their land line # from lender, if they answer........just ask if they still live there.

I went with something to the effect that "2 apparently maintained vehicles in the driveway appear to indicate that the property is occupied. Further conclusions cannot be made from a driveby inspection, from the subject's street." I stated a fact, and followed with a disclaimer.

I prefer it when the client requests a specific form like the 2075. Even though it asks for more information, this way there is no confusion and it takes me less time to complete (because I have a precedent to follow).

We check the tax records.

If the tax bill is being mailed someplace else it is probably not the owner's primary residence.

When the snow is down 5 days with no foot steps in it or shoveling, it's unoccupied.

Or, the people have not arrived back yet from their cruise in the Caribbean.

They may never arrive back if they went scuba diving!

Is there a scuba thing on the news today, or did you have a scuba event you did not like? Scuba diving is fun. But those rushed "learn in a day" classes are dangerous if I were asked.

Maldives, 1977. My friends told me how to put the tanks and weights on, showed me how to breath in and out with the mouth piece, told me if I wanted to go up take a breath and hold it and if I wanted to go down exhale and hold it.

Next thing I know I'm past the reef and down 100 feet in an underwater cove filled with white tip sharks, blue sharks, giant clams, and fish and coral of every conceivable color imaginable all set against a background of black coral.

How did your shoulders and your neck feel after you surfaced? Might explain why you're so "crabby" lately...

I haven't been scuba diving yet. Did some skin diving in Hawaii years back.

Saw that stupid movie Cold Water or something like that

people went diving and the boat that brought them to the dive site went back to the dock and left the people in the water all night as fish food. Then saw some news articles about similar things happening to scuba tourists and made a note to self.

When I get 'round to scuba diving never go on one of those tours where you could get lost in the crowd, and left behind.
