I use three different systems with three different answers. My main MLS is reliable to 2007 so eight years. My two secondary sources vary with one having data to 2005 if you pull by address and the other to 2003. I have comp books from 1984 to 2009 when our board decided to no longer print them.
NWMLS, covering the most counties in WA State, keeps the basic listing on file. But after 5 years the selection of original photos is eliminated, keeping only the 'primary' photo from the listing. That photo may not show the actual residence, but instead a photo of the view or some other external feature.
Our data base is pretty intact into the 1990s. But there are "SOLD" books in the MLS library for the old back into the 1980s I believe. Our MLS is a merger of no less than 4 boards, so that is hit and miss in some sales.
my MLS goes back to to 1993. A local realtor has files dating back to the 1930's not that I have ever had a need to go that far back. His office has(or had) scribbled sales data on every sale for the past 75 years. I assume they do not do that anymore.
Recent search showed data back to 1994, and I'll bet there some older, but the information on those properties varies greatly, and with some, *very* limited - as in: Ranch, 3br 1 bath, amazing value, $71,750 - Sold 5/4/94
