I average 700-800 miles a week on a solely work dedicated vehicle. I now have documentation.
I've kept a Dome mileage book for 30+ years, even before I was an appraiser
Big brother Google keeps track of all your trip maps so no need for additional documentation. :rof: According to Google, I drive around 20,000 miles per year.

So the new IRS agents would frown that I guesstimate and then up the mileage or down it depending on how much money I made that year? Good to know.

When I was younger and dumber... going at it hard... before I realized I could make just as much (or more) money staying more local... I would log 45,000-50,000 miles per year doing appraisal work.

When I was an active appraiser 35% of my overall business was rural and 65% was urban assignments. For me 5% was REO, 30% residential, 50% commercial and 15% probate. I typically drove 30-35K miles per year. I used one car solely for my business. I typically passed the car along to one of my sons every 5 yrs for free. My volume of assignments was consistent for most of 30+ yrs of appraising. No accidents nor tickets.

In my time there weren't fancy apps to keep track of your mileage. I did an ending mileage on my car's odometer every year for tax purposes. I never kept track of individual assignment mileage.

This year will do about 150 reports, which equals to about 20k

I use a simple Dome mileage book which I clip under a mini-clipboard. At the end of each month I total my mileage and every quarter I pay myself mileage as a pass thru from my S corp.
