I Think We Are In Trouble

Quark, I appraise in California and I also saw the latest OREA newsletter with 80 CA appraisers disciplined, revoked and/or fined and suspended. I actually took this as good news. There are just under 11,000 licensed appraisers in CA and 80 more are out of business or probably back on the right track. Many more appraisers will take notice of the disciplinary actions. If this was the TV show Survivor, we just voted off 80 appraisers. In theory, we are purging the worst appraisers to leave the best ones. No doubt just as many appraisers will be disciplined in the next OREA newsletter. With limited new trainees, natural attrition and disciplinary actions, the number of appraisers appears to be dwindling or holding steady at best, which is good news for the rest of us. Besides, appraisal review pays better than appraisal work and bad appraisers create more review work.
