Like most of you, I just got the appraisal renewal in the mail on 06-14-14 (Dated 06-16-14)

So now they have a new requirement to get an ID from DPS for a criminal background check. Charging us $67. Very stupid if you ask me.

I would like to know one thing . . .

How many times has an appraiser been harmed or threatened by a homeowner during an inspection, or bit by the pit bull, or got injured by the cactus measuring a home, or got poked by a rusty nail while trying to inspect the attic?

How many times has the appraiser caused physical harm to the homeowner?

This is just another round of completely unneeded requirements on appraisers. If there was to be any background check, it should be on the homeowner to protect the appraisers. We should also have a copy of the homeowner insurance which should include a minimum of $1 million on injuries.

Great. that gives me something to look forward to next month.

A revision to my previous post. If you guys want to provide background checks and ID cards, and even DNA to be able to work for some of these pitiful lenders...that is totally up to you.

This background check is required by the Arizona Board of Appraisal as part of the License/Certification renewal process and has nothing to do with your pitiful lenders.

So I'm going to go find a fingerprint place tomorrow. Anyone who has already accomplished this new renewal requirement have any comments or advice?

Just curious....does the Arizona board have any sitting AMC board representatives? Because this new mandate would be one way to influence the Boards to serve the best interests of an AMC, if that's what the AMCs lenders/clients are requesting.

At our next renewal (Indiana) (each 3 years starting this year) it will likely be required. It is already required for new licensees, as is a BS degree or equivalent.

Five members are public with no personal or business appraisal relationship.

and in all probability, no past or current personal/ business appraisal experience is required either.

Are there any politicians on board? Looks like a chamber of commerce or DMV clerk would qualify for the position on their appraisal board.
