I am planning to begin my initial Trainee coursework at Gold Coast Real Estate School next month. I am currently a real estate agent and but want to add an Appraisal license to my resume. Any input on Gold Coast in terms if I should wait instead for AI classes, or advice on how to get secure a mentor and trainee position in Broward County? I am hold a Master's of Science degree in Mkt Research as well. I would really appreciate any insight possible.

Welcome to the Forum Brian

AI courses are generally great. As well are other local courses. Taking classes is definitely the first step in getting your foot into the door to the appraisal world; as is getting on here!

Your status shows Agent/Broker, which should get you another foot in the door vs the "average" general public person looking to get into this profession. In your Agent/Broker world, I'd also recommend asking each appraiser you meet at a property some questions regarding into the profession. Obviously try not to be too intrusive/pushy, but that's definitely another opportunity you have over the general public, due to your professional interaction with appraisers on a "daily" basis. Who knows, one may actually bite and consider taking you on as a trainee!

All the best

you do realize the s-storm youre getting yourself into right? literally couldnt be a worse time to become an appraiser but good luck.

Hi Brian.

I'm also an agent and an appraiser.
If you're going to waste your time and money on this venture, go commercial and take AI classes. Your degree will help you, the certified general license will allow you to appraise both commercial and residential properties, and, will help you doing consulting and investment work with a wider variety of clients instead of being limited to only residential properties.

Good luck, and my pre-warning here is that you will need skin thicker than your degree to become an appraiser and/or post on the internet about it.

But don't let us scare you. Ask questions anytime. Lots of helpful people here, sometimes.
